Kniveton is a pretty and ancient village which lies on the road between Ashbourne and Wirksworth. The village has the same name as the original lords of the manor, whose coat of arms may be seen in ancient stained glass in the 13th century church in the village. For a map of the area - Click Here

Three miles away is Ashbourne, lying at the southern end of the Peak District, which is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In the 18th Century, the town was a fashionable social centre and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of shops, restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters.

For those with an appetite for outdoor pursuits, Carsington Water, the Dove and Manifold Valleys  are all close by. Beautiful Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as well as Matlock Bath with its spectacular cable car and caves, history of mining museum and Gulliver's Kingdom. For thrill seekers Alton Towers is only 20 minutes away. More information of where to visit can be found on our 'where to visit' section.
